Kevin McCort was appointed President and CEO of Vancouver Foundation in September 2013, bringing with him a wealth of energy and over 30 years experience in the non-profit sector to the role. In his three years since Kevin joined the Vancouver Foundation, the organization has passed two major milestones; cumulative granting surpassed $1 billion in 2014 and net assets exceeded $1 billion at the end of 2015.
Kevin has volunteered, studied and worked in the charitable and non-profit sector in Canada and abroad since 1983. He joined Vancouver Foundation following an impressive 20-year career with CARE Canada, one of Canada’s leading development and humanitarian aid organizations, serving the last six years as president and CEO of the organization.
As President and CEO of CARE Canada in Ottawa, he oversaw programming of over $150 million annually in service to communities in more than 30 countries. A respected leader in the international development community, McCort’s work was enhanced by living and working in many countries, including several years posted to Mali, Zimbabwe and Zambia directing development and humanitarian programs.
Deeply committed to fostering collaboration, McCort co-founded the Humanitarian Coalition in 2005, and served as the first Chair of the Board with a vision of bringing together Canada’s leading aid agencies to finance relief efforts in times of humanitarian crises. He also served as a board member of Imagine Canada, an umbrella agency for all Canadian charities, from 2009 to 2015. To help build connections to the business community, McCort has been a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, a global network for business leaders since 2009.
McCort graduated in 1989 with a B.Sc. (Specialist/Honours) from the University of Toronto. In 2005, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University. In February 2013, he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his leadership in promoting Canada’s values of tolerance and social justice across the world.
