Marcel Lauzière
President and CEO

Marcel Lauzière is the President and CEO of Imagine Canada, a national umbrella for charities and nonprofits in Canada. He has worked in the charitable and non-profit sector as well as in government here in Canada and abroad.
Prior to this appointment to Imagine Canada, he served as Deputy Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development in the New Zealand government. He has also served as President of the Canadian Council on Social Development, as Special Advisor to the President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and as Founding Executive Director of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Throughout his career, Marcel has been a volunteer and has served on numerous boards and advisory committees in Canada and internationally including: the Statistics Canada Advisory Committee on Social Conditions; the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations; the Canadian Center for Philanthropy; and the International Council on Social Welfare. He is currently on the Board of the Public Policy Forum, on the Editorial Board of the Philanthropist and a member of the Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC).
Marcel has a Masters degree in Canadian Social History from the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Cathy Barr

Cathy Barr is Senior Vice-President at Imagine Canada. In this role, she oversees the Research Program, Ethical Code Program, Standards Initiative, and Insurance & Liability Resource Centre for Nonprofits. She is also responsible for Imagine Canada's financial, administrative, human resources, and information technology functions. Cathy joined Imagine Canada (then the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy) in 2002 as Director of Research. In that role, she participated in several major national projects including the National Survey of Nonprofit and Voluntary Organizations, the National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating, the Johns Hopkins University Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project, and the Canada Volunteerism Initiative. Cathy holds a PhD in political science from York University. Prior to joining Imagine Canada, she spent several years as a faculty member at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Stephen Faul
Vice-President, Strategic Communications & Business Development

Prior to Imagine Canada, Stephen served as the Executive Director of Second Harvest, an organization which collects fresh, perishable food and distributes it to more than 200 social services agencies throughout Toronto. He also served as Vice-President, Marketing and Strategic Alliances for Operation Eyesight; Manager, Communications for Scarborough Community Care Access Centre; Acting Executive Director and Director of Communications for the Schizophrenia Society of Canada; Director, Marketing & Communications for The Kidney Foundation, Central Ontario; as well as Media Relations Manager for the Royal Ontario Museum.
“I’m passionate about the crucial role the charitable and nonprofit sector plays in our society and I am thrilled to be working with the Imagine Canada team to build sector awareness among decision and policy makers and Canadians in general,” Stephen Faul shares.
Stephen is also an annual guest speaker on nonprofit marketing at York University’s Nonprofit Management Program. He holds a certificate in marketing for nonprofit organizations from Carlton University and a diploma from Centennial College in radio and television journalism.

Dr. Gauthier is the Vice-President, Public Policy and Community Engagement. She leads Imagine Canada’s work to develop and implement a new strategic public policy agenda. She also seeks to facilitate collaboration among nonprofit and charitable organizations as they interact with individuals, communities, businesses and governments to fulfill their domestic and international missions.
Prior to Imagine Canada, Michelle was the Director of the Research and Policy Analysis Division for the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. She worked with university presidents from across the country to document compellingly universities' contributions to Canada and the world. In addition, she engaged in public policy dialogue with government and other stakeholders on a wide array of higher education and research issues. Previous positions include Principal Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she specialized in such areas as public policy for the cultural sector and curriculum design and development, and Executive Director for the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario, where she gained valuable experience in professional association management. Michelle has also lectured at McGill University, University of Ottawa and Carleton University. She is fluently bilingual and holds a Ph.D. from McGill University in Communications.
