January 17, 2012. Imagine Canada submitted a brief to the Standing Committee on Finance (FINA) concerning their Study of Tax Incentives for Charitable Donations. Marcel Lauzière, President & CEO, will appear before the Committee on February 7, 2012.
November 8, 2011. As part of our multi-prong strategy to promote the Stretch Tax Credit, our Sector Champions endorsed this letter to Finance Minister Flaherty.
August 12, 2011. Imagine Canada submitted its prebudget recommendations to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance. Our submission continues to call for the adoption of a Stretch Tax Credit for Charitable Giving to promote donations by individuals, equal access to federal business development programs for charities and non-profits, and an expanded mandate for the Tax Court of Canada.

August 19, 2010. Imagine Canada has written to the leaders of all four parties in the House of Commons, outlining the serious consequences that the proposed Bill C-470 would have on charities across the country. The letter was co-signed by the leaders of charities across Canada.

November 13, 2009. Read about Imagine Canada’s proposed Stretch Tax Credit for Charitable Giving in the Philanthropy in Action insert in today’s Globe and Mail. See our opinion editorial and advertisement made possible in part with the generous support of The Muttart Foundation. The purpose of the Stretch Tax Credit for Charitable Giving is to encourage more Canadians to give and to support those who do give to give more. The Stretch Tax Credit for Charitable Giving would increase the federal charitable tax credit from 29% to 39% on all NEW giving that is over $200. August 8, 2009. Imagine Canada submits its pre-budget brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance. The brief was developed in consultation with Imagine Canada’s Public Policy Committee, chaired by Hilary Pearson and was informed by the efforts of both the Disbursement Quota Working Group chaired by Susan Manwaring and the Tax Measures Working Group chaired by Malcolm Burrows. May 25, 2009. Imagine Canada and the Ontario Nonprofit Network invite charities and nonprofits to comment on proposals put forth in the Financial Reporting by Not-For-Profit Organizations position paper. This document proposes a number of alternatives to the current accounting standard regime used by the nonprofit sector. The Accounting Standards Board is soliciting input on a number of matters that could have a significant impact on the way the sector does business. Charities and nonprofits have an opportunity to provide comment until June 30, 2009. Read more.

Imagine Canada submitted a Brief to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance on Short-Term Stimulus Measures for Assisting Canadians and Communities during the Economic Downturn. Canadians with the lowest household incomes give a greater percentage of their income than others
Saskatchewan has the highest volunteer rate in the country, followed by the Northwest Territories and the Yukon
Those exposed to giving and volunteering activities early in life are more likely to continue those behaviours as adults
