Allan Northcott is Vice President of Max Bell Foundation, where he has been employed since 1998. Max Bell Foundation is a private grant-making foundation with a national mandate and assets of 72 million dollars. Its grant making and programming is aimed at bringing the experience and expertise of civil society organizations to bear in the development of public policy. Allan is directly involved in all aspects of the Foundation, including investment management, strategic planning, program delivery, opportunity identification, and grant management.
In the broader nonprofit sector, Allan has advised on strategy, communications, and program & project design for a range of organizations including the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Imagine Canada, CIFAR, Philanthropic Foundations Canada, and the Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network, where he served as Board Chair from 2009-2012. He is currently a board member and public policy committee chair for Philanthropic Foundations Canada.
Allan’s career began in academia. Over a ten year period he taught a range of communications courses at the University of Calgary, the University of Illinois, and Old Sun College on the Siksika First Nation. He then worked for two years at a policy think tank managing a project on digital citizenship before joining Max Bell Foundation.
