Refat Jiwani is the Chief Financial Officer at the Aga Khan Museum with primary responsibility for developing, supervising, and mentoring the team of professionals in the Finance Department, providing strong leadership and vision to the functions of financial accounting, financial and management reporting, business analysis, financial planning and budgeting, treasury and investments, procurement and expense management, financial management of grant and donor funds, stewardship and protection of assets, regulatory reporting, and audit and legislative compliance. He maintains levels of excellence related to professional accounting standards, audit standards, corporate, charities and tax legislation, and other regulatory statutes and guidelines. As a business partner on the senior management team, Refat supports the programmatic agenda and operations of the Aga Khan Museum while being a catalyst in implementing effective accountability combined with responsible business and fiscal discipline throughout the organization.

Refat has over 30 years of corporate business experience having worked in the United Kingdom, North America and Central Asia. He has held various senior leadership roles in Canada, including CFO of a large publicly traded financial services company and CEO of a private niche information technology company.

Refat shifted to the charitable sector about seven years ago as the CEO of Focus Humanitarian Assistance (North America) and was Director of Finance at Aga Khan Foundation Canada prior to taking on his current role in June 2015.   

Refat is a Fellow of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA-UK) and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA-Canada), as well as being a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He has held leadership positions on various corporate, industry and community committees including being a guest speaker and panel member, and contributing to policy dialogue and lobby efforts. He has been an active volunteer and leader for over 30 years in the community and society at large.
