How many ways have you been touched by a charity?
It may be more than you think.
Do you… go to a college or university… play community sports… take part in local festivals… learn from a mentor… volunteer at an animal shelter… go to a hospital clinic… get help from a food bank… support projects overseas… take a nature walk? These are just a few of the ways charities support communities and enrich our lives.
Would you know a charity if it hit you in the face? Are charities at the heart of your memories? Do you consider yourself to be a “charity case”? What would you lose without charities? These questions are at the centre of A Charity was Here.

The Story Behind A Charity Was Here
The Muttart Foundation and Imagine Canada teamed up two years ago to create Students (Verb) Charities, a national contest that asked post-secondary students to create public awareness campaigns that speak about the contribution of charities. The contest challenged students to draw attention to the depth, scope and reach of the entire sector – and to do it as creatively as possible in any form or medium.
Campaigns were judged for originality and for their ability to engage Canadians with charities. Check out the photos from the contest’s awards night.
We wish to acknowledge financial support from the Muttart Foundation for the original Students (Verb) Charities contest and the subsequent A Charity Was here campaign.
