As part of a broader commitment to youth employment opportunities, the federal government has announced a doubling of the Canada Summer Jobs program, providing funding for organizations including nonprofits, to offer summer jobs to students.
Nonprofit organizations could be eligible for up to 100 percent of the minimum wage as well as the full amount of mandatory employment-related costs. Local priorities and needs will be factored into the approval process.
Eligible employers may apply at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj or by visiting a Service Canada office before March 11, 2016. Those organizations approved for funding will be able to hire students starting May 2016.
